Hillary is a proud 55-year-old maize farmer from Kenya. He would like to continue supporting his family through his farming work, but his physical condition has rendered this increasingly difficult. For the past five years, Hillary has been living with a multinodular goiter, also known as an enlarged thyroid.
After having visited several hospitals without receiving a proper diagnosis, Hillary recently visited one of our medical partner’s care centers, AIC Kijabe Hospital, for specialized treatment. Ultrasound tests confirmed the diagnosis of a multinodular goiter, and he is now scheduled for a thyroidectomy on June 7 in which all or part of his thyroid gland will be removed. Without treatment, Hillary will stay at risk of increased pain and difficulty breathing and swallowing.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $640 to help fund the treatment on top of the $103 subsidized by Hillary. Following the surgery, Hillary hopes to return to work so that he can provide for his family and fund his children’s education.
“I want to be well and continue working with less health problems,” says Hillary.
