Agaba is a 57-year-old man from Uganda. He is married and has five children. Agaba and his wife are both farmers, cultivating food for both home consumption and for sale.
About seven years ago, Agaba began experiencing swelling on the lower right side of his abdomen. This came after a hernia repair surgery that Agaba underwent in 2010. The operation went well and he went home healthy, but within three months he realized that there was swelling in the same region where they had operated. The pain and swelling increased over time, and a friend of his directed him to seek assistance at our medical partner’s care center. Doctors have diagnosed him with a recurrent right inguinal hernia, which means that his intestines are protruding through a gap in his abdominal wall. Surgery has been recommended.
Our medical partner, Holy Family Virika Hospital, is requesting $249 to fund Agaba’s medical treatment. He is scheduled for hernia repair surgery on August 23 at our medical partner’s care center, Holy Family Virika Hospital. After treatment, Agaba looks forward to returning to his family and farm.
“After surgery,” Agaba says. “I will continue with farming.”
