Si is a four-year-old girl who lives with her parents in a Thai-Burma border refugee camp. Her father works as a day laborer on the outside of the camp.
Si was born with congenital cataracts. Her parents first noticed her symptoms when she did not open her eyes for the first two weeks after she was born. When she finally did open her eyes, they were cloudy and white. She also had trouble seeing.
The hospital in the refugee camp referred Si to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital (MSH). At MSH, doctors examined Si and booked several followup appointments. They then scheduled a lens replacement surgery for June 20.
In order to take Si to her appointments, Si’s father had to quit his day job. Having to quit his job has placed a huge burden on his family, and they cannot afford treatment. For this reason, our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Si’s treatment.
“I hope that my daughter receives the medical care she needs, and works in the healthcare setting when she grows up,” says Si’s father.
