In April 2011, Sokna was out celebrating the Khmer New Year like many in Cambodia. Unfortunately, she was involved in a motorbike accident which left her in a rural hospital for several weeks with multiple injuries. As a complication, Sokna suffered from a severe infection in her leg, which has resulted in limited movement in her foot.
Sokna’s condition has made it difficult for her to not only continue her current job in a garment factory but also partake in her favorite activity—cooking with her mom! The staff at Children’s Surgical Centre want to provide Sokna with the appropriate surgery and physiotherapy to fix her ankle deformity and restore her mobility.

Sokna received surgery and physiotherapy to restore mobility in her foot.
With the successful surgery, Sokna already has improved function in her foot and leg. She worked with our physiotherapy staff after her operation and will start to wear a special shoe, which will help to further correct her condition. Sokna can start enjoying the activities she loves again, like cooking with her mom!
Sokna told our medical partners that she “really liked the doctors” and is thankful for all the help.
