Meet Meliscent from Uganda. She is 48 years of age and supports herself and her family by working as farm laborer. Meliscent is also an active member of her church and community, helping to organize church services and social gatherings. Meliscent relaxes by listening to the radio.
For the past seven years, Meliscent has had multiple nodules on her thyroid (otherwise known as a multinodular goiter). They have not caused any symptoms until the last six months. Recently, they have grown significantly in size and are now affecting Meliscent’s ability to breathe and swallow.
With the aid of our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, Meliscent will undergo a $279 thyroidectomy procedure on August 2 to remove her thyroid gland.
“Thank you for your help with my surgery. It will make a big difference to my life,” says Meliscent.
