Meet Rauben, an 80-year-old hardworking farmer from southwest Uganda. He has six children, five of whom are still in school, and works with his family to grow maize, potatoes, beans, and various vegetables to sustain their family. They also earn a small income from a small field of coffee plants, which they use to pay school fees and to buy other necessities. Recently, working has become painful for Rauben due to a hernia that he has had for seven years. His doctors have recommended a herniorrhaphy.
Because all of their income goes to supporting their large family, Rauben is unable to fund his own herniorrhaphy. In order to help Rauben, our medical partner is requesting $229 to fund his hospital stay and surgery. He is scheduled to undergo surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Bwindi Community Hospital, on July 4.
After his surgery, Rauben is looking forward to being able to work again without pain.
“Please tell the donors I appreciate them so much, says Rauben. “I have had no energy and the operation will be so helpful to me. I will be able to work again. I say thank you to everyone helping me.”
