Bhagrati was born three months ago to a loving family in Far Western Nepal. Bhagrati’s parents already have big dreams for her. They hope that one day, their daughter will become a teacher and give back to their community.
Like most families in Nepal, Bhagrati’s family prepares food in their home over an open flame. Reliance on fires for cooking results in hundreds of thousands of burn deaths and injuries in developing countries each year. The World Health Organization classifies burns as a major global public health problem.
Last month, Bhagrati was burned while sleeping close to a cooking fire. Her parents traveled for 24 hours to bring her to Nyaya Health’s hospital for treatment.
Bhagrati’s parents say they are “very hopeful” about their daughter’s recovery. They work hard as farmers, but often find themselves searching for additional job opportunities to make ends meet. Needless to say, this expensive procedure is impossible for them to afford.
Nyaya Health is requesting $1420 to allow for Bhagrati and her parents to access specialty care in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. Our support will fund their transportation, lodging, and accompaniment by a Nyaya team member.
