Mwanaharusi is seven years old and the youngest of nine children. She loves to color in storybooks and has a reputation for being very polite. Mwanaharusi has knock-knee, a condition that causes her knees to angle towards each other, making walking difficult.
Mwanaharusi’s family earns money by selling milk from cows they keep, which isn’t enough money to correct Mwanaharusi’s condition. “We are praying that one day our daughter will walk without knocking her knees and eventually go to school,” Mwanaharusi’s parents say.

Mwanaharusi received surgery to correct her knock-knee.
Following a successful operation Mwanaharusi’s legs are now in casts as she waits for the wounds to heal. She is in good spirits and is enjoying coloring picture books while seated in bed.
“What can we say? Thank you so much Watsi,” Mwanaharusi’s parents, who could not afford the surgery, said. “We are excited to see our daughter getting better and look forward to seeing her walk without knocked knees.”
