Tumusiime is married with eight children; four are teachers and the rest are self-employed. All of her children are now married but still have no capacity to help out financially for her surgery. She is a small-scale farmer and does not earn a sufficient wage.
Three years ago, Tumusiime began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath sometimes and heart palpitation. She was diagnosed with a goitre, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumusiime receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on May 12th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $264, and she and her family need help raising money.
Tumusiime shared, “I hope to be relieved of this disfigurement and life-threatening condition so that I can feel comfortable and I continue with farming.”
