Nyamarembo is an elderly woman from Uganda. Nyamarembo had 10 children, and shared with us that seven of them are still living. She is a small-scale farmer along with her husband. When she was young, she studied in school up to the fifth grade. She likes playing with grandchildren during her free time. Their family owns a four-room semi-permanent house for shelter.
Nyamarembo developed lower abdominal pains around 26 years ago and has visited many hospitals. Previously she would receive tablets as the only treatment. However, recently her pains have turned severe to the extent that she has completely stopped farming and does not sleep comfortably as a result. She has come to Rushoroza Hospital to seek medical advice.
At Rushoroza, she presented with a long-standing history of chronic pelvic pain and the scan shows that she has uterine fibroids. If not treated, these will continue affecting her quality of life negatively. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Her family cannot afford the surgery charges and she seeks financial support for the surgery.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $228 to fund Nyamarembo’s surgery. On October 7th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Nyamarembo will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain and her quality of life will improve.
Nyamarembo says, “I pray that I may be treated soon because I am in severe pain and I hope to resume farming as soon as possible.”
