Tumushabe is a farmer from Uganda. She is a married mother to nine children. Four boys who all are builders while the rest are girls who are all married and small-scale farmers as well. She earns a living by practicing farming at her small piece of land growing crops like beans, maize, and millet for both her family’s consumption and with any extra supplies sold off to buy other basic necessities like paraffin and salt.
Twenty years ago, Tumushabe began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty in breathing and blurred vision. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumushabe receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 7th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money.
Tumushabe says, “I hope that by God’s mercy, I will be well after my surgery is done.”
