Heng Ly is a 66-year-old vegetable seller. He is married and has one son, one daughter, and two grandchildren. Heng Ly lives with his wife, who is also a vegetable seller, and their daughter, who is a teacher. In his free time, he likes to watch the news on television.
One year ago, Heng Ly developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Heng Ly learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for an hour seeking treatment. On March 2nd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Heng Ly shared, “I hope I can see clearly again so I can look after my grandchildren.”

Heng Ly underwent cataract surgery to restore his vision.
Heng Ly was not able to work as a vegetable seller due to his poor vision, and his wife was left with much of the work to support the family. After his surgery, his vision improved almost immediately. His life will improve because he will be able to see well enough to work with his wife at the market now, which will increase the income for his family. This is a big relief for Heng Ly.
Heng Ly told us: “I am glad I took the advice of my neighbor to get help from CSC. I can see much better and can help to support my children and grandchildren. I will be able to watch TV again instead of only listening. Thank you to the people who supported my operation, I am very grateful!”
