Phal is a 59-year-old housekeeper. When Phal is not working, she likes to watch TV and visit her local market.
In June 2019, Phal fractured her radius at work when she slipped and fell on a wet floor. She had a plate and screw applied to the fracture at a provincial hospital. Her hand is still swollen and tender and she has been unable to work. Doctors suspect she also has a neuroma, a benign growth of nerve tissue, that is causing her so much pain.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On January 13th, Phal will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. By having the hardware removed, she hopes the pain will finally go away, her arm will feel back to normal, and that she can return to work.
Phal shared, “I hope that my arm will be better soon. I have no income and rely on my relatives and neighbors to support me. I want to be more independent and useful to my community.”

Phal underwent a fracture surgery so she can get back to working.
Phal underwent an important procedure of hardware removal and exploration of a nerve at Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). Fortunately, there was no evidence of a neuroma or need for additional surgery. The hardware that was the source of her discomfort has now been removed. She will stay at CSC until surgeons are sure she has no complications, and then return home to her province. Phal is relieved that she will be able to soon return to work to make money to support herself.
Phal said, “Thank you. I am so grateful that I can return to work, and my arm will be completely healed. I need to support myself and don’t want to always rely on others.”
