Tukamushaba is a 43-year-old woman and a married mother of six children. Her oldest child is now 18 years old and in secondary school, while her youngest is five years old and hasn’t yet started school. All of her other children are still in primary schools and she shared that raising their school fees has been challenging as she and her husband are small scale farmers.
Ten years ago, Tukamushaba began experiencing troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling that has been slowly worsening and difficulty breathing. Her efforts to seek treatment previously have been futile due to limited financial resources. She was diagnosed with a nodular goiter and she needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $293 to fund Tukamushaba’s surgery. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 6th at AMH’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland.
Tukamushaba shared, “I pray for a successful surgery. I have struggled with the condition for a long time. Hopefully, I will resume farming along with my husband to be able to further develop our family.”
