Kreusna is a two-year-old toddler from rural Kampong Thom province in Cambodia. He lives with his parents, older brother, and grandmother. His father works as a rice farmer, while his mother is a home maker. Kreusna has been living with a persistent weakness in his right hand since birth, a result of a nerve injury that occurred during his delivery. This condition has made it difficult for Kreusna to lift or to grasp objects. He was diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury, a condition that affects the nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Kreusna traveled to Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to receive treatment, the only center in Cambodia where this treatment is available. On July 9th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery, which will improve his arm function. Kreusna and his family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and need help raising $609 more to fund the procedure. Kreusna's father says: "I hope that Kreusna will be able to use his arm and play more freely with his brother and friends.

Sokchum is a 38-year-old coffee cart merchant from Siem Reap Province in Cambodia. He lives by himself and has three siblings who live with their single mother in another rural province a few hours away. To support himself and his family, Sokchum rents a small cart space to sell coffee. In his free time, Sokchum enjoys watching boxing and soccer on TV with his friends. About eleven years ago, Sokchum had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Sokchum has been experiencing some concerning symptoms including difficulty in hearing, pain, and ear discharge. It has become increasingly difficult for him to communicate with his customers, family, and friends. Sokchum traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 6th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Sokchum is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and need help raising $826 more to fund the procedure. This will cover the cost of medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Sokchum says: "I hope that after surgery I will be able to hear more clearly so I can improve communication with my customers."

Bunrith is a high school student from Cambodia. He lives with his mother and three siblings in Kandal Province, while his father works as a truck driver in another province. Bunrith just completed the 9th grade and enjoys science. At home, he likes to eat rice with stir-fried beef. In his free time, he enjoys helping his mother cook for the family and watching cooking channels on social media. In May 2023, Bunrith was in a road traffic accident which resulted in a fracture of his right ankle. He was taken to a private clinic in Phnom Penh where he underwent an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery. During the procedure, the doctor fixated a plate and screws to facilitate the healing of his fracture. Now, the fracture has healed, but the metalwork is uncomfortable and it is difficult for him to walk. His family does not have enough savings to support further surgeries at the hospital where Bunrith was initially treated. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 11th, Bunrith will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will help him walk easily again. Bunrith's family was able to contribute $100 towards his medical costs but needs help to raise $204 more to fund the procedure. Bunrith hopes that he will be able to return to school soon, and be able to walk more comfortably.

Baing lives in Krong Siem Reap with her oldest son, his wife, and their three children. Her two eldest grandchildren help their parents sell second-hand clothes from their home, while the youngest grandchild is currently in the 6th grade. At home, Baing enjoys gardening and watching comedy shows on TV with her grandchildren. Two weeks ago, Baing slipped on tree branches behind her house and fractured her left femoral neck near her hip. Since then, she has been in chronic pain and unable to walk. She went to Siem Reap Provincial Hospital, where the doctor referred her to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. When Baing and her family learned about our medical partner, they traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On May 29th, surgeons at CSC will perform surgery on her left hip to help her regain mobility. Baing and her family can contribute $100 but need help raising $444 more to fund her procedure and post-operative care. Baing shared, "I hope I can walk again so I can take care of my grandchildren and walk to the pagoda to pray."

Sovan is a 54-year-old farmer, who lives with his wife in Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. Sovan and his wife work long days as rice farmers, while their only daughter works in Thailand. About a year ago, Sovan developed a mass on his left wrist. The mass has been slowly growing in size and causes discomfort when Sovan moves his wrist, making it difficult for him to work. He has never sought any treatment for the mass, but now he is worried that it might cause problems in the future. Sovan sought care from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On September 10th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will remove the mass. Sovan can contribute $40 to his care but needs to raise $233 more to fund the entire procedure. Sovan said: "If I get this operation, I will be able to use my hand for work again."

Srey Nich is a 26-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with one child, and both she and her husband work as rice farmers. In her free time, Srey Nich enjoys cooking and playing with her two year-old daughter. When she was ten years old, Srey Nich had an ear infection. This infection caused the ear drum in both ears to perforate. For this reason, Srey Nich experiences recurrent ear discharge and dryness in both ears. She feels uncomfortable due to the ear discharge, and has difficulty communicating clearly with her family and others. Srey Nich traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 14th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in both ears, where surgeons will close the perforations. Srey Nich is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and needs help raising $814 more to fund the procedure. Srey Nich says, "After surgery, I hope to improve my hearing so I can focus on work and take better care of my daughter."

Chamnan is a 21-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has six siblings and lives with his parents in Kampong Speu province. His parents could not afford to educate all their children, so Chamnan left school after 6th grade, and stayed home to help his parents with their rice farm. In his free time, he likes to go to the coffee shop in his village with his friends. About a year ago, Chamnan underwent surgery to correct a birth condition in his right leg. His condition affects the growth of the long bones, specifically the femur. He wants to remove the hardware in his right leg due to chronic pain that occurs while working outside on the farm. On September 10th, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, will help Chamnan undergo surgery to remove the hardware that was previously placed. This procedure will help to relieve the pain and allow him to strengthen his leg. Chamnan's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $204 more to fund his procedure and treatment. Chamnan shared, "I want to remove the metal in my leg so I can walk well and help my parents work on the farm."

Cheara is a 35-year-old father from Cambodia. He repairs motorcycles to support his family. His wife helps him in the shop. Together, he and his wife have three daughters. In his free time, Cheara enjoys helping his daughters with their homework. Cheara shared that he has had an abnormal posture in his spine since he was ten years old. Our surgeons have diagnosed him with kyphoscoliosis, which includes both kyphosis and scoliosis. This condition results in excessive outward curvature of the upper spine (kyphosis), causing a rounded or hunched back, along with a sideways curvature of the spine (scoliosis), often forming an "S" or "C" shape when viewed from behind. He experiences back pain when lifting heavy objects, some chest tightness, and shortness of breath when going upstairs or running. Fortunately, our medical partner, the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On September 4th, specialty surgeons will perform surgery to fuse the vertebrae in the thoracic and lumbar regions of Cheara’s spine, aiming to correct his spinal alignment. Now, Cheara and his wife need your help to raise $1,500 to cover the costs of the surgery, hospitalization, implants, post-operative medication, and physiotherapy. This surgery will help alleviate his back pain, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, significantly improving his quality of life. Cheara shared, "I wish I could work without pain and improve my posture so that I can feel more comfortable meeting with my customers."

Yim is a 48-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three children and lives with her husband and her 84-year-old grandmother in Kampong Thom Province. Her husband also works as a rice farmer, and their children are all studying in Phnom Penh while living with a relative. At home, Yim enjoys listening to music and spends most of her time caring for her elderly grandmother. Yim discovered a lump in each of her breasts about 20 years ago but never sought treatment. Preventative care is rarely available and often not affordable to Cambodians in rural areas. Yim experiences pain when touching the masses and uses pain relief medication, but she is worried that the masses could be more serious if not removed. Yim traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 23rd, surgeons at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the masses. Now, Yim needs help to raise $243 to fund this procedure. Yim said: "My hope is that the lumps are not cancer and won't return after surgery so I can stop worrying."

Puthea is a 40-year-old grocery seller from Cambodia. She has three children and lives with her husband and their youngest child, who is four years old. Her other two children are in school and live with their grandparents a few hours away in her hometown. Puthea and her husband earn a living by selling groceries from a small hut on the roadside. In her free time, Puthea enjoys cooking and playing with her youngest child. One year ago, Puthea developed a dermoid cyst on her left ear. It is a benign growth that contains a mix of skin cells, hair follicles, and sweat glands. She experiences pain, a warm sensation, and occasional headaches. Puthea traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 1st, surgeons at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Puthea needs help to raise $273 to fund this procedure. Puthea shared, "I hope the cyst won't return after the surgery and that I will feel comfortable again."

Saban is a 57-year-old widow and retired rice farmer from Kratie province in Cambodia. She has two sons, two daughters, and two grandchildren. She lives with her youngest daughter, also a rice farmer. At home, Saban enjoys cooking for her grandchildren and likes to stay connected to her community by visiting the local pagoda to listen to the monks pray. About three years ago, Saban developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and tearing. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Saban no longer leaves the house alone, because she is afraid she will trip and fall from the steps on their traditional stilt house. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Saban learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for six and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Saban and her family are able to contribute $100 but need help to raise $153 more to fund this procedure. Saban said: "I hope after surgery I will see better. I want to help my children and take care of my grandchildren."

Visal is the oldest of three siblings. His father serves in the army, while his mother stays home to take care of the family. Visal dropped out of school in the 7th grade to help support his family. Now, he stays home, cares for his siblings, and grows vegetables for the family to eat and sell. Two weeks ago, Visal injured his left hand with a knife, making it difficult to fully extend his index, middle, and ring fingers. The injury has weakened his hand, preventing him from lifting or pushing objects backward due to limited extension at the wrist and fingers. Visal was referred to our medical partner, the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), and traveled four hours to seek treatment. On June 7th, surgeons will repair the tear in his ruptured tendon to improve the function of his wrist and hand. Visal is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $472 more to fund the procedure and physiotherapy treatment he needs. Visal said: "I hope I can use my hand and fingers again to work and help my parents."
