Naw Htee is a nine-year-old girl who lives with her parents, brother and sister in Thailand. She was referred to our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP), for treatment for benign tumors on her left inner thigh and the underneath of her tongue.
BBP shares, "Two days after Naw Htee was born, her mother discovered a small mass the size of a coin slightly protruding from her inner left leg." When Naw Htee was three years old it started to cause her pain. It also causes her to feel weak and feverish.
In 2013, Naw Htee developed a painful black and blue mass on the underside of her tongue. When the pain is bad she is unable to eat and sleep. As the family does not have any money, they did not take her to a hospital.
"Despite Naw Htee’s condition, she tries her best to push through the pain and rarely misses school. At school she learns Thai, English and Burmese although she says learning Thai is her favorite. Naw Htee likes everything orange and enjoys playing jump rope with her friends," BBP explains.
$1,500 will surgery to remove Naw Htee's tumors, including transportation to the hospital and food during recovery. Burma Border Projects expects Naw Htee will be able to recommence her studies following treatment and will no longer experience pain which affects her most days.
Naw Htee's mother says, "I am very grateful that my daughter can finally receive the treatment she requires. I hope to see my daughter happy and healthy very soon."
