Lai Sim is a 69-year-old grandmother with one daughter, three sons, and seven grandchildren. Lai Sim sells vegetables at the market and lives with her eldest daughter who works in a garment factory. Her husband passed away 15 years ago. Lai Sim likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio.
Two years ago, Lai Sim developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Lai Sim learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 24th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and will implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Lai Sim said, “After surgery I hope my eye can see clearly as a young person again. I want to take care of my grandchildren more.”
