Rey is a married, 58-year-old rice farmer, living in Cambodia with his wife and youngest daughter. Together, he and his wife have one daughter, five sons and five grandchildren. Rey’s wife is also a farmer, while his daughter is a garment worker.
Three years ago Rey developed a non-cancerous growth in his left eye, most likely as a result of sun damage. This growth disrupts Rey’s ability to see clearly, and negatively impacts his quality of life.
Rey traveled for four hours to see help from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. It was determined that Rey requires surgery to remove the affected tissue; the procedure, medications, and supplies will cost $225.
Rey is now scheduled to undergo surgery on October 4th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, and hopes for your support to cover the cost of his surgery to help him see clearly again.
Rey said: “I hope after surgery my eye will stop tearing and I can see better. I hope to plant rice well again.”

Rey underwent eye surgery so he can see clearly again.
Rey was hopeful he could have his eye repaired so he could see well enough to work outside in the rice fields. With support from the Watsi community, he had successful eye surgery and was able to return home with antibiotic eye drops to aid in healing and reduce the chance of infection. Improved eyesight is important to Rey to be able to support his family. He is relieved he will no longer have poor vision or irritation, and is happy his eye will look and feel better soon.
Rey’s wife shared: “We are very grateful and pleased that my husband’s eye will look better and he can see to drive his motorcycle. He doesn’t complain about the redness or itchiness and we can work together to grow rice to feed our family. Thank you to the donors who paid for his surgery and to the CSC staff who took care of him.”
