Winnie is a 49-year-old farmer. She cultivates small-scale seasonal crops like beans and corn. Her husband is a teacher and together, they have five children. Her family’s income is too limited to make ends meet and cover emergency costs like healthcare.
For a few months now, Winnie has been experiencing lower abdominal and back pain and other troubling symptoms. This has affected her work in the farm as she is not able to sustain lengthy sessions bending or carrying luggage. She has been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and inflammation of the ovary. At Nyakibale Hospital, she had several tests done and doctors recommended a total hysterectomy to remove her uterus. However, she is not able to pay the cost and appeals for help.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMH), is requesting $219 to fund Winnie’s surgery. On September 22nd, she’ll undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Winnie will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Winnie says “I look forward to resuming my work on the farm to provide for my family, educate my boys and see them grow into important men in the future.”
