San is a 63-year-old widow and a retired rice farmer. She lives with her younger daughter in Kandal province in Cambodia. San has one other daughter, one son, and three grandchildren. She stays at home most days caring for her grandchildren, or listening to the radio. During the banana season, she fries tropical bananas to sell on the roadside, to earn some money for her daughter, who works in a local clothing factory. One year ago, San developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, and the inability to see well in bright or low sunlight. As a result of her impaired vision, San is reluctant to go out on her own. When San learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours to seek treatment. On March 8th, doctors will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After recovery, San will be able to see clearly again. Now, she needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. San said, "I hope after my operation that I will be able to see well so I can cook Khmer cakes and fried bananas to sell. I want to help support my daughter's family."

Elizabeth, who is seven months old, lives with her parents and two older brothers in a small house in Haiti, that they share with other relatives. Both of her parents are farmers. Elizabeth has a cardiac condition called atrioventricular septal defect. A large hole exists in the center of her heart, which affects all four of the heart's chambers. Blood leaks through this hole without passing through her lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving Elizabeth weak and unable to gain weight. Elizabeth will fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. As she is too small and weak to undergo major surgery to completely correct her condition, on April 9th she will have a procedure, during which the doctors at Hospital CEDIMAT will implant a shunt, that will allow oxygenated blood to circulate through her body. This will stabilize Elizabeth's condition so that she can continue to grow and gain weight until she can more safely undergo a complete repair in several years. While another organization is contributing money to pay for Elizabeth's surgery, our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is seeking your help to fund the $1,500 needed to cover the costs of Elizabeth's pre and post-operative care and for the documents and travel costs for Elizabeth, her family, and the social workers that will accompany the family. Elizabeth's mother said: "Our daughter's heart condition has been very stressful for our family, and we are very thankful to know that there may be a way to solve it!"

Rossette is a 35-year-old housewife from Uganda. Her husband works in a retail shop and supports his wife as she has not been able to find a job. During her free time, Rossette enjoys visiting her friends. Rossette is currently expecting her first child. She received antenatal care at Rushoroza Hospital, where her doctors recommended that she deliver via a Cesarean section because of breech presentation at term. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Rossette undergo a C-Section on March 1st. This procedure will cost $214 and Rossette needs your support. Rosette says, “I hope I will have a successful surgery with a positive outcome. After complete recovery, I will continue to search for a job. May God bless you.”
