Arkam is seven-year-old primary school student from Tanzania. He lives with his grandparents while his parents work in another region of the country. Both his grandparents along with his parents, work together to provide for his needs. However, the grandparents also care for three more grandchildren. Arkam was born with a congenital condition that limits the full use of his fingers on both hands. Despite making efforts to seek treatment, the family encountered difficulties due to the high cost of medical expenses. In 2023, they reached out to our medical partner's care center Kafika House and were invited for a review. Earlier this month, Arkam was brought to Kafika House by his grandfather for consultation. Specialist surgeons at the center have proposed a contracture release and skin graft to help him gain use of his fingers. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Arkam receive treatment at their care center Kafika House. On March 6th, surgeons will perform a contracture release surgery to enhance the functionality of his hand. Now, his family needs help to fund this $874 procedure. Arkam’s grandfather says: “I hope my grandson will be able to use his hand because it will make it easier for him while in school.”

Esther is a 48-year-old mother of two adult children. She is a sales lady and her husband is an accountant. During her free time, Esther listens to gospel music and enjoys eating nsima made from maize flour served with fish and beans. In 2021, she experienced abdominal pain and other worrying symptoms. She was diagnosed with uterine fibroids or abnormal growths in the uterus. She was given some medications that helped reduce the growth of the fibroids. Once her symptoms disappeared, she stopped taking the medications. However, the symptoms came back and the doctors at Partners in Hope Medical Center (PIH) recommended for her to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy to address the pain and future complications. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is asking for $1,363 for the procedure that will take place on March 2nd. After the surgery, it is expected that Esther's symptoms will disappear. Esther looks forward to being able to perform her daily tasks and going back to work.

Samuel is a 44-year-old small-scale farmer and driver from Malawi, married with six children. When he was younger, Samuel was unable to complete secondary school due to financial constraints. He decided to shift his focus to being a farmer and a driver. Three weeks ago, Samuel was on his way to the market when he was hit by a vehicle, sustaining injuries to his right leg. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and was then referred to our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital. Samuel was diagnosed with lower leg and ankle fractures, and surgery was recommended. Presently, Samuel is in pain - he is unable to walk or work to support his family, and cannot raise funds for his treatment. If the condition is left untreated, there may be nonunion or malunion, with worsening pain and swelling over time. Fortunately, our medical partner, Africa Mission Healthcare, is helping Samuel receive treatment. On April 23rd, Samuel will undergo an open reduction and internal fixation surgical procedure, to promote healing and eventually enable him to resume work.
