Him is a 23-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He is married and has one son. In his free time, Him likes to watch TV, fish in the river, and relax at home.
In May, Him was in a motor vehicle accident that caused complete paralysis of his left arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. This means that the network of nerves that sends signals from his brain to his shoulder, arm, and hand has been severely damaged. Him is currently unable to lift his arm and cannot work.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund Him’s surgery. He is scheduled for brachial plexus repair on August 2. After treatment, he will be able to move his arm once again, returning to his family and to work.

Him underwent shoulder surgery.
Him’s BPI treatment went well. Following the procedure, he was given pain medication and antibiotics to take for one week. He had one week of physiotherapy at CSC before being discharged. His stitches were removed 14 days later and he was instructed to use an arm sling for four weeks after surgery for added support. Him is able to use his arm more easily than before and he does not experience any pain.
Him says, “I am so happy with the results of the surgery. I can do things better than before the operation. Thanks to CSC, all of the staff, and all of the donations for helping me.”
