Rocio is a five-year-old girl living in Guatemala. Since her birth, her parents have tried everything to find relief for their daughter’s devastating seizures. Rocio’s mom tells our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, “I hope that, with your help, we can control this disease.”
An average day for Rocio includes anywhere between 30 to 40 crippling seizures. The high number of seizures has resulted in severe developmental delays in cognition and deficits in her social and language skills.
Rocio’s parents have tried to procure treatment for years, even resorting to selling their land and some of their possessions. The cost of Rocio’s medication alone has exceeded her father’s monthly wages.
We can help directly fund Rocio’s medical care at Wuqu’ Kawoq for $1,385. This will provide for effective diagnostics (EEG, MRI) and treatment, seizure medication, and enrollment in intensive physical and speech therapy.
Together we can find relief for Rocio’s seizures and get her development back on track. Our collective support will give this five-year-old girl and her family a chance at regaining control of their lives.

Rocio received treatment to relieve her seizures and get her development back on track.
Rocio’s treatment was a success!
“Rocio is doing quite well,” report her doctors. “Thanks to the support of Watsi donors, we were able to adequately work up and diagnose the cause of her seizures, which is a rare condition known as tuberous sclerosis. Knowing the diagnosis has allowed us to tailor her medication and treatment regimen, and her seizures are more controlled than they have ever been in her life. We will continue to see her over the coming years, to make sure that her condition stays well-controlled and that she continues to develop and thrive.”
“Thanks for helping our daughter,” added Rocio’s parents. “We were desperate, and we couldn’t afford treatment anymore. Now we have new hope.”
