Sokhom is a 66-year-old retired rice farmer. Sadly, Sokhom’s husband passed away many years ago. Now, she lives with her daughter, who also works as a rice farmer, and she has five grandchildren. In her free time, she likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit the pagoda near her home.
Three years ago, Sokhom developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her sensitivity to light, blurry vision, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Sokhom learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 24th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sokhom shared, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly. I want to be able to do more of my housework and help my daughter take care of my grandchildren.”
