Rose is a middle-aged woman, a wife and a mother to three children. She is a farmer on her small farm in Kenya where together with her husband, they work to meet the family’s daily needs. Rose lives in a three roomed house in her ancestral land. Her children are educated by their grandmother as Rose is not able to meet the fees expenses.
Rose started complaining of poor urinary control in October 2015. After visiting the hospital, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and a total abdominal hysterectomy was recommended to remove her uterus. Rose is not able to engage in hard labor for long due to back pain and quick fatigue. Her productivity at work is thus lower than before. She has been visiting the hospital for clinics but has not been able to access the surgery due to financial constraints.
For $800, Rose will undergo total abdominal hysterectomy surgery at AIC Kijabe Hospital. Her friends and family are subsidizing $21 of the treatment cost.
“I want to be well and be able to continue with my work,” shares Rose. “I fear having cancer in my body.”
