Gaura is a 15-year-old girl who lives in a remote area of Nepal with her parents and brother. She and her family have a small piece of land on which they grow food, but it’s often not enough to feed them. Her dad and her eldest brother go to India to work, and Gaura helps her mom raise cattle to earn extra money.
Unfortunately, Guara fell down from a tree while she was gathering fodder for the cattle two days ago. She hit her head and her hand, fracturing her humerus and causing bruising around her eye. The upper arm bone fracture limits Guara from using her arm and has caused a swelling in her hand. She’s worried that she won’t be able to help her mom with chores because of her injury.
For $205, Gaura will receive a hanging cast to heal her hand. She says, “I don’t want to be a liability to my family. I want to get back as soon as possible, so that I can help my mother.” There is so much work that she doesn’t go to school regularly and doesn’t anticipate to go past class 8. She just wants to help support her family. But she can’t do it without healthcare. Let’s help Gaura get back to living the life she wants to live!
