“It is hard to see everything clear or do any work. I don’t feel well. It is hard for me to go anywhere outside” says Un, a 44-year-old man from Cambodia. Un is a rice farmer and fisherman. He has a wife, two sons and two daughters.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) explains, “Six years ago, Un developed a pterygium in his left eye.” A pterygium is a non-cancerous growth of conjunctiva covering the cornea.
CSC says, “This causes him redness, blurred vision, tearing, irritation, and a burning sensation. Un traveled three hours with his wife to reach CSC.”
For $150 Un’s pterygium can be surgically removed. CSC explains that “after a pyerygium excision procedure, Un’s left eye will be healed and his pain and irritation will stop.”
“I hope after surgery there is no burning feeling,” Un shares. “I will be able to see clearly and do my work easily. I hope I can go anywhere outside on my own too.”
