Sophanith is a ninth grader from Cambodia. He has two brothers and one sister. He loves to play soccer.
When he was seven years old, Sophanith had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Sophanith experiences ringing ears, pain, and discharge. He is having trouble paying attention in school, and always needs medication to stop the discharge.
Sophanith traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On November 20, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
He says, “I hope I can go back to school without pain in my ear.”
