“Said is hopeful that his headaches will go away once the doctors have fixed him so he can go back to school and learn and play with his friends,” share our partners at Edna Adan Hospital.
Said is a nine-year-old student from Somaliland. Nine months ago, Said began experiencing headaches that kept him from attending school. His symptoms have gotten progressively worse, and he now requires a wheelchair to get around. A doctor in his local hospital diagnosed Said with hydrocephalus, a condition in which there is excess fluid in the skull and can result in brain damage. There was no treatment available for Said in his local hospital, so a community health worker brought Said to Edna Adan Hospital.
For $640, we can fund surgery for a shunt incision to drain excess fluid from Said’s brain. After surgery, Said will no longer be at significant risk of brain damage and his headaches will decrease in frequency and severity. Let’s help Said return to school with his friends and improved health!
