Ry is a 60-year-old tuk tuk driver from Cambodia. He has one son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. Everyday, he drives his tuk tuk for customers, does some work helping his wife at home, and listens to the news on the radio.
About one month ago, Ry developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision that is now preventing him from driving his tuk tuk. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Ry learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled to the hospital seeking treatment. On April 27th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that after surgery I will see clearly so I can continue to drive my tuk tuk again,” Ry said.

Ry underwent cataract surgery.
Ry’s surgery was successful! His doctors removed the cataract in his right eye that was causing him blurry vision and making it difficult for him to drive his tuk tuk (motorcycle taxi). He can now see clearly and go anywhere outside. He will be able to see his son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. Once he is fully recovered, his quality of life will improve significantly.
“I am very happy that I can see clearly now so I can drive my tuk tuk under the sun with no sensitivity to the light. Also, I can take my wife and children to our homeland easily,” shared Ry.
