Chou Lang is a six-year-old girl, who is currently in the first grade. She has one older brother and one older sister, and her parents are potato and rice farmers. Chou Lang enjoys playing with her siblings, watching cartoons, and painting. She told us her favorite meal is soup and fresh milk.
Chou Lang was born with polydactyly of both feet. This means that she has extra toes, making it difficult for her to wear shoes and to walk.
Fortunately, on May 5th, surgeons will perform a polydactyly repair procedure to remove the extra digits from both feet. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $299 to fund this procedure, after which Chou Lang will feel more comfortable and active, and will be able to fit into shoes easily.
Chou Lang’s mother says: “I hope she feels comfortable after surgery and does not feel shy with her friends.”

Chou Lang underwent surgery to heal her feet.
Chou Lang and her parents traveled over five hours for her surgery with our medical partner in the capital city. Her parents were understandably nervous about handing their baby over to the medical team as they carried her into the Operating Theatre, but grateful when they saw her in the Recovery Room and knew they made the right decision. When her feet are fully healed, Chou Lang will be able to walk like other children and without pain.
Chou Lang’s mother said: “I was worried that other children would make fun of my daughter’s feet, and am happy the surgery went well. She won’t have any trouble walking or running and won’t be ashamed of her feet. Thank you for helping my daughter have this surgery, it is very important for her to be healthy.”
