“Esvin’s mom and dad tell us, ‘We want a strong and healthy child who will grow up to be a man with good values,’” shares our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK). Meet Esvin, a one-year-old baby boy from Guatemala, and the first child born to his young parents.
Esvin’s family has had a difficult economic time recently and as a result there has not been much food. “Esvin has been losing weight every month for three months and his height hasn’t increased at all either,” explains WK. “His mom is really worried about his health and she notices that he is much less energetic and happy than he was before all this started.”
Esvin’s mom stays home and cares for him while his dad works as an unskilled laborer. Neither parent finished primary school, which limits their labor opportunities. According to WK, “They came to see our staff, asking for economic help with taking care of the child but also asking for education saying, ‘We don’t know how to feed him properly.’”
For $535, we can provide Esvin with food and nutrition support to treat him acute malnutrition. “Esvin will regain the lost weight and will start growing again. He development will pick up and this will guarantee that he has a good chance to be successful in school and later on in life as well,” reports WK. Let’s help Esvin have a healthy infancy and send him on his way to a great life with his family!
