Srey is a 62-year-old rice farmer, living with her husband - who is also farms with her. Together they have two sons and eight grandchildren. Srey enjoys taking part in ceremonies at her local pagoda, and cooking for her many grandchildren.
Two years ago, Srey developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her light sensitivity, blurry vision, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, and is reluctant to go out on her own.
When Srey learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours to seek treatment. On September 7th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, will perform small incision cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After Srey has recovered, she will be able to see clearly, and to resume the activities of her daily life with renewed confidence. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Srey says: “I hope after surgery my eye can see better so I can easily go outside on my own.”

Srey underwent cataract surgery so she can see with her left eye.
The thought of anything touching Srey’s eye kept her from accessing care to improve her vision, but she was feeling bad because she could no longer help her husband on the farm or see clearly to do what she enjoys. A villager told her about Children’s Surgical Centre, where she had successful surgery to remove her cataract. After surgery, she spent the night in the hospital, then was able to return home with eye drops to reduce the chance of infection. When her eyesight stabilizes, she will be able to return to her daily activities, help her husband, and be more independent.
Srey said: “I am so happy I listened to my neighbors. I know this will improve my life, I can help my family to earn money and visit the pagoda by myself again. Thank you to CSC and my donors for helping me see better.”
