Meng Hak is 48-year-old father from Cambodia. He is married with three sons and two daughters. He works as a fisherman and farmer. He likes to go fishing, watch TV, and listen to music on the radio in his free time.
Meng Hak sustained a serious injury to his left hand in December 2016 when it became caught in a fish blender. He received treatment from a hospital in Phnom Penh and was hospitalized for 20 days. However, his symptoms have not improved. Meng Hak is unable to use his left arm and is in pain.
Doctors have now diagnosed Meng Hak with a brachial plexus injury (BPI). This is a medical condition where the nerves from the spine to the shoulder, arm, or hand are damaged. This can result in paralysis and loss of function and sensation.
On May 25, Meng Hak will undergo surgery to repair his BPI. Surgeons will perform a nerve transfer to help restore function back to his left arm. Our medical partner, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, is asking for donations in the amount of $450 to support Meng Hak’s surgery.
