Soy is a 44-year-old rice and vegetable farmer. She is married and has one son, two daughters, and two grandchildren. Soy’s husband is a construction worker.
Last September, Soy fell and fractured her right patella. It is still difficult for her to walk and she is in chronic pain. After the accident she went to a provincial hospital for an x-ray but she could not afford surgery there. Her cousin told her to come to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) to see if the doctors there could help her.
Fortunately, surgeons at CSC can help. On February 4th, Soy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will help her walk easily again.
Soy says, “I hope my pain will stop and I can return to working and walking easily.”

Soy underwent a fracture repair for she can walk easily again.
After more than a year of knee pain, Soy was thrilled to undergo surgery to help relieve her pain and restore her mobility. Her surgery went well, and she has returned home. As she continues to heal over the next three months, the doctors advised Soy to avoid any activities that would place strain on her knee. Soy looks forward to returning to work on the farm again soon, as well as helping to sell their produce to support her family’s income and ensure that her grandchildren can go to in school.
Soy’s husband said, “I am relieved my wife’s knee will be better and she can walk again. She was unhappy and could not cook or care for the house or the vegetable gardens. Thank you to the CSC staff and all the people who helped.”
