Damari was extremely active and curious before developing hydrocephalus, a condition that causes the circumference of his head to increase so that it is now too heavy for him to carry.
His parents say that they want Damari to be able to spend hours running around pretending to race cars or play with his younger sister again. They tend to their livestock to earn money for the family while Damari lives with his grandmother. His grandmother says, “I love my grandson very much, having him around brings so much joy. However, since he fell sick I cannot do much because I have to constantly be close by him, feeding him, changing him, etc. My prayer is for him to get well!”
For $905, Damari will undergo a procedure called ventriculoperitoneal shunting. This surgery will place a tube into the fluid-filled chambers inside his brain to drain them and release pressure. After the surgery, Damari will no longer be at risk of blindness and is expected to make a full recovery to continue with normal growth.
