Path is a 69-year-old grandmother living with her husband, two sons, three daughters, and six grandchildren in Cambodia. She likes to listen to monks pray at the pagoda, join ceremonies, watch Thai movies on TV, chat with her relatives, and look after her grandchildren in her free time.
Three years ago, Path developed blurred vision, tearing, and burning in both eyes. Since then, she has had difficulty doing her work and going outside by herself. She worried about her vision deteriorating to complete blindness. Path heard about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), from her neighbor who recently had surgery there. She traveled with her daughter to CSC for further evaluation.
Path’s doctors diagnosed her with cataracts and recommended surgical intervention. She needs a phacoemulsification and an intraocular lens implant in each eye, which will replace her internal lenses and restore her vision to full clarity. In total, the procedure, supplies, drugs, and four days of inpatient care will cost $292.
Following recovery, Path will have restored vision in both eyes, and she will be able to travel independently. She will be able to easily care for her grandchildren as she did before.
