Haman is a 30-year-old barber from Kenya. He loves to give his clients good haircuts.
About three years ago, he noticed a small pimple on his foot, which later grew into a wound. He had the wound treated in several hospitals. Last year, he had a skin graft done, and he has been dressing the wound ever since.
He has continued to work as a barber, despite the pain on his left foot. He limps when walking and is unable to stand for long, which has affected his productivity. If the condition is left untreated, Haman will be at risk of developing an abscess or chronic osteomyelitis.
“I want to be treated and be able to work harder,” says Haman. “If not for this wound, I’d be more productive and able to do much more than I have been doing.”
Haman visited our medical partner’s care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital, after moving to Nairobi. Surgeons there recommended a skin graft and have scheduled the surgery for April 18. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has requested $1,129 to fund the procedure.
