Chhorm is married and has five sons, five daughters, and many grandchildren. Chhorm lives with his wife, who is a farmer. At home, he likes to listen to the news on the radio.
Three years ago, Chhorm developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision and difficulty recognizing faces. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going outside.
When Chhorm learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 4th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $229 to fund this procedure.
Chhorm says, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly so I go can outside, see my relatives, and plant crops around my house.”

Chhorm underwent sight-restoring cataract surgery.
Chhorm was grateful that his in-laws told him he might be able to have his cataract removed at Children’s Surgical Centre. With Watsi’s support, he had a successful operation and was able to return home the next day. Chhorm can already recognize faces and colors are more distinctive for him. He has new confidence that his life will improve because he can return to farming full time and not worry about his limited vision whenever he is outside.
Chhorm’s wife said: “We are relieved that my husband’s eye is better and he can be more independent. He can go outside again and help our family with the crops. This will help us to get more vegetables and rice to eat and to sell. Thank you for your help.”
