Meet Yith! At 80 years old, she is a mother of two and grandmother of three. She enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and cleaning around her home in Cambodia.
Lately, though, it’s been hard for Yith to complete even basic tasks like cleaning. She developed a cataract in each eye three months ago. Cataracts form when proteins in the eye’s lens clump together, reducing the amount of light that can reach the eye’s retina. This means that with cataracts in both eyes, Yith is experiencing seriously blurred vision and tearing. She can’t see clearly, do work well, or go outside on her own.
Fortunately, there is a solution that can help Yith. For $225, we can provide her with the medical procedure that will remove her clouded lenses and replace them with artificial, fully functioning ones. This funding will also cover the two-day hospital stay and post-operative medications Yith will need to recuperate from her surgery.
After her cataract-affected lenses are replaced with implants, Yith will be able to see clearly again. Let’s make clear vision a reality for Yith once more.

Yith received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Yith had her left eye cataract removed in a short surgery, during which her clouded lens was taken out and replaced with a clear, artificial implant. The procedure went very well, and she is already seeing everything clearer than before. “I feel very happy that I can see everything clear again,” she said, “so now I can do any work like clean the land around my home and take care of my grandchildren.”
Although she was scheduled to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she has yet to return to receive the second operation.
For any number of reasons, it can take patients some time to return for follow-up care. Patients often live far away or have important family matters arise that keep them from coming back to the clinic. When Yith returns, the surgery on her right eye will be free.
