Akunda is an 8-year-old third grade student. She is the youngest in a family of four children with one sister and two brothers. Her elder sister is in primary six while her eldest brother is in senior four and her other in senior two. Her mother operates a grocery shop and her father operated a small scale retail shop, however, her mother shared that they had to acquire a few loans while paying school fees and are now they are feeling overwhelmed.
Since three years ago, Akunda has had an umbilical hernia. This hernia causes her pain and discomfort. Fortunately, on January 12th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $230 to fund Akunda’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Akunda’s mother says: “I will really be grateful seeing my child healthy once again after her surgery, and I hope she will continue with school well once schools are reopened.”
