This is Infamia. She is 19 years old, and lives in rural Guatemala with her husband and her two-year-old child.
Infamia is 34 weeks pregnant. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK) explains that Infamia currently faces severe complications with her pregnancy. “She has had vaginal hemorrhage, lower back pain, and pain in the abdomen.”
On top of her health complications, Infamia’s husband and mother-in-law want her to give birth at home, which is putting undue pressure on her. WK tells us that that is inadvisable. “Her life and her baby’s life are in danger if she chooses to give birth at home,” WK explains.
Infamia wants to go to a hospital, but she cannot afford the $377 delivery care cost. She said, “I am a little sad that this is happening, but I want my baby to be healthy and be born in a hospital.”
Luckily, we can help. If Infamia goes to a hospital, WK tells us, “She will receive labs, ultrasounds, and case management to support her in her decision to give birth in a hospital and help the doctors there understand what is causing her complications. She will receive a personalized birth plan, and our medical team will be supporting her, making sure she feels comfortable in the hospital and is receiving the treatment and medications she needs for her and her new child to be as healthy as possible.”
Let’s help raise the funds for Infamia’s treatment, and allow her to give birth safely in a hospital.

Infamia received life-saving treatment during her pregnancy.
19-year-old Infamia, an expectant mother, was facing serious health complications such as back and abdomen pain and a vaginal hemorrhage, all of which were putting her pregnancy at risk. Thus, she was originally working with our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK), on a specialized birth plan to ensure a safe delivery.
We are deeply saddened to report that due to an unexpected infection Infamia acquired, her baby passed away after delivery.
“Infamia went into premature labor and gave birth so quickly that she was not able to get to the hospital in time,” WK tells us. Infamia was afterwards diagnosed with and treated for a taxoplasmosis infection.
It is this infection that “is what our medical team believed caused her to go into premature labor,” WK adds.
WK believes that Infamia’s baby did not survive due to a combination of the premature delivery and the infection. They have been closely monitoring Infamia to ensure she receives both the physical and emotional support she needs. “Infamia was transported to the hospital after giving birth and has not suffered any complications. She is working with our medical team to prevent future complications, and have children safely,” WK adds.
We are grateful that, because her care was funded, Infamia was able and will continue to be able to receive the additional medical attention she needs.
Thank you for supporting both Infamia and her family.
“We feel sad, but we are also happy that Infamia is well and is still with us,” shares Infamia’s husband. “We are going to get through this, little by little, and we are going to take care of ourselves and take the necessary precautions for the next pregnancies. Thanks for the support that you have given us.”
