Meet Nishant, an eight-year-old boy who lives with his mother and brother in Nepal. “Nishant enjoys solving problems in mathematics and playing volleyball and football,” says our medical partner, Possible.
Nishant sustained fractures in his right hand after he slipped while walking. He currently requires assistance from his mother to eat and perform other daily activities. Furthermore, he is unable to attend school due to the pain and swelling.
Nishant’s father works in India to support the family, but they cannot afford treatment.
For $224, Nishant will undergo a closed reduction procedure to align the bones in his hand, after which he will be placed in a plaster cast. Once the bones heal, the cast will be removed and Nishant will regain full use of his hand.
His mother shares, “Nishant is excited to return home and be with his brother once his treatment is over.”

Nishant received successful surgery to treat the fractures in his hand.
“Nishant’s fractured bones were aligned correctly and secured,” shares our medical partner, Possible. “Post treatment, Nishant will experience some pain but it will be under control with medication. Nishant will be in bed rest for at least a few days. He will have to do physiotherapy exercise to regain mobility. Because he’s a growing child, he needs to follow the physiotherapy routine, even though it may hurt a little in the beginning.”
Nishant and his family look forward to his returning to school and continuing his education when his hand has finished healing.
